Summer Care Tips for French & English Bulldogs

Summer is a great time to enjoy the outdoors with your bulldog, but French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs need extra care when temperatures rise. Their short noses make it harder for them to cool themselves, so it's important to help them stay safe and comfortable.

Keep Your Bulldog Cool

Always provide fresh, clean water and plenty of shade if your dog is outside. During very hot weather, it's best to keep your bulldog indoors with air conditioning or fans whenever possible.

Walk During Cooler Hours

Choose early morning or late evening for walks. Pavement can become hot enough to burn your dog's paw pads, so test the ground with your hand before heading out.

Watch for Signs of Overheating

Bulldogs can overheat quickly. Contact your veterinarian right away if you notice signs such as:

• Heavy or noisy panting

• Excessive drooling

• Bright red gums

• Weakness or difficulty walking

• Vomiting or collapse

Never Leave Your Dog in a Parked Car

Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can become dangerous within minutes. If your bulldog cannot come with you, it's safest to leave them at home.

Enjoy Water Safely

Many bulldogs enjoy cooling off in shallow water or a small splash pool. Always supervise them closely, as French and English Bulldogs are generally not strong swimmers because of their body shape.
